Even though the season has not officially started yet, the sounds of Summer are already in the air. But with these summer months come the increase in of accidents and injures and thus the need to help boost blood collections with the American Red Cross.
Bloodstock Scholarship 2008 is a summer program that gives students the chance to win money for college and give back to their communities by planning a blood drive. The Red Cross will have a drawing for scholarships for any student who plans and organizes a successful Bloodstock 2008 blood drive through Aug. 31.
The winner of a $2,000 scholarship will be drawn from those applicants who: find a blood drive location with the help of a Red Cross account manager; attend face-to-face planning meetings with a Red Cross account manager; recruit and schedule at least 65 donors from friends, family and potential past donor lists supplied by the Red Cross; and help recruit volunteers to assist at the blood drive. Students must also be at the blood drive from beginning to end and collect a minimum of 50 units of blood. For students who collect a minimum of 35 units of blood will be entered into a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship.
For more information or to complete an application for a Bloodstock scholarship, go to www.redcrossblood.org. Scholarship checks will be addressed to the college or university the students are attending.
