Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces a FREE crime prevention class being held at the Ballentine Recreational Center in Irmo (1009 Bickley Road) on March 19, 2009 at 6:30 PM.

Sheriff Lott encourages all citizens to take part in this free crime prevention course that sheriff's deputies from the Community Action Team (C.A.T) will host. The Sheriff is offering this free, one-hour course, in an effort to highlight simple things that can be done to prevent auto break-ins and "spring-time" crimes. The goal is for citizens to be proactive and stop crime before it happens -- crime is often an opportunity that we must take away from the criminals. Sheriff Lott further states it's the "little things" that citizens may not pay much attention to such as leaving a lawn mower and garden tools under a shed in the view of criminals or leaving valuables in plain view in your car that determines if citizens may be putting themselves at risk of becoming a victim.

Sheriff Lott added that he hopes all citizens will be proactive, not reactive. Sheriff Lott concluded by stating that anyone who wants more information on the free crime prevention training or other services that the Department offers to please contact the C.A.T. Team at 803-576-3118 or go to www.rcsd.net.
